The Fremantle Chamber recognises the importance of the East End precinct for the future viability of Fremantle and as a result, fully supports the City's move to begin the process of redeveloping the area to accommodate more residential and business activity. Nevertheless, the Chamber still holds some concerns regarding the Officer's Recommendations as well as the consultation process itself.
The Chamber has been actively involved in the consultation phase of the process. This involves Chamber participation in the two workshops held on the 19th and 21st of November followed by a report to the City that contains the Chamber's reflections on those workshops. A further submission of 'Observations and Recommendations Concerning the City's East End Redevelopment Plans' has been written and will be formally resubmitted to the City.
As a key stakeholder in the redevelopment plans, the Chamber is confident that proactive cooperation with the City of Fremantle and other concerned parties including local residents and businesses can create in an effective process that ultimately yield results that benefit not only the East End community but that of the entire Fremantle area.
