31 Jul, 2008

Fremantel Markets have successfully completed the accreditation programme run by the Tourism Council of WA.
Accreditation provides official confirmation that the Markets have in place comprehensive management systems to ensure that a consistently high tourism experience is provided to visitors. It also invloves a series of checking processes to ensure that potential concerns are identified and rectified early.

Fremantle Markets attract more than 30,000 visitors per week, with an estimated 50% or more being international and interstate visitors.

Mr Jamie Murdoch, director of Fremantle Markets Pty Ltd, managers of the Markets, said undertaking the accreditation programme was in line with his company’s policy of continuous improvement.

“In light of recent criticism, it is good to have official confirmation that our management systems and procedures meet the high industry standards for conducting a tourism business,” said Mr Murdoch.

“It provides an assurance to our stallholders, the City of Fremantle and ratepayers that we are professional in our approach to managing this important Fremantle icon.

“Accreditation provides an important ‘tick’ that many tourists look for, and we anticipate this will help us to boost our visitor numbers even further, which benefits not only our stallholders but Fremantle businesses as a whole,” he said.
