One Final Ride Across the Old Fremantle Traffic Bridge

Community members are being offered a rare opportunity to be among the last to travel across the old Fremantle Traffic Bridge before it closes permanently on Sunday 1 February 2026.

From the early hours of Sunday morning, the bridge will close to allow construction to progress on a new, iconic crossing for Fremantle. Dismantling of the existing bridge will begin later that day and continue over the coming months.

To mark the moment, Main Roads is inviting the community to register their interest in joining a final bus convoy across the bridge after it has closed to general traffic. Up to 80 people will be selected to take part in the one-hour experience on the morning of Sunday 1 February.

During the ride, members of the project team will share updates on the new bridge’s construction and be available to answer questions. Participants will also have a brief opportunity to step off the bus on the bridge for photos.

Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to email hello@fremantlebridges.com.au with a short explanation of why they would like to participate. Registrations close on Friday 23 January. Successful applicants will be advised of pick-up and drop-off locations in the days leading up to the closure.

Main Roads and the Fremantle Bridges Alliance plan to host a community celebration once major construction is complete, to officially mark the opening of the new bridge.
