Fremantle is once again putting design in the spotlight, with the launch of the Fremantle Design Week 2026 program, bringing 10 days of exhibitions, conversations, tours, workshops, films, open studios and special events to Walyalup from 16–25 October 2026.
Held biennially, Fremantle Design Week celebrates the people, ideas and creative thinking that make our city such a distinctive place to live, work and visit. Now in its third edition, Fremantle Design Week 2026 invites audiences to Imagine — and to consider how design can help us create a healthier, more optimistic and more joyful future.
Imagine a different future
The theme for 2026, imagine, arrives at a time when the world is navigating significant challenges and change.
Across the design world, practitioners are responding with creativity, experimentation and optimism - finding new ways to rethink how we live, work, build, make and connect.
Fremantle Design Week brings these ideas to life by connectinglocal and national voices in design, offering an opportunity to explore how design can shape a better future while celebrating the remarkable talent already here in Fremantle.
As the program puts it, imagine is an invitation to find joy and creativity during challenging times.
A program made for Fremantle
The 2026 program offers something for designers, creatives, businesses, students, families and anyone curious about the places and objects that shape our everyday lives.
Highlights include the opening-night exhibition Imagine: Material Stories, alongside exhibitions such as Reverie, Various Forms of Production, From the Surface: Country, Culture, Connection and The Nature of Transition.
The program also features conversations covering architecture, housing, diversity, sustainability, materials, farming, public space and the future of our cities, as well as hands-on workshops spanning colour design, sketching, zine-making, ceramics, textiles, mending and design thinking.
For those who want to experience Fremantle itself through a design lens, there are walking tours, open studios, exhibitions and special events throughout the city, with many activities centred around Fremantle’s West End.
